If you have to pay for school with financial aid, can you still file for unemployment? On the application it didn’t ask or mention anything about school, but someone told me that I could get in trouble if the govt. found out about it [ he lives in new york though ] does it matter if I live in NC?

You cannot claim UI benefits if you are attending school full-time.
Per the NC UI website:
"To be eligible for unemployment insurance benefits (including the one-week waiting period), you must:
1. be unemployed;
2. be physically able to work;
3. be actively looking for work each week; and,
4. have no restrictions which would keep you from accepting suitable work;"
If you are attending school full-time, you would not be able to accept a full-time job and thus there would be "restrictions." I am aware of NO state which will pay UI benefits to full-time students.

When it comes to financial aid or scholarship questions, I just tell my friends to go to the site http://www.FinancialAidQuick.com and take a look around.Its good starting point with several great sources of aid.
