Where do you plan to live , which state of Australia? No nothings free in this world.

If you want to work, then you need either a Permanent Residency visa or a Temporary one. (actually, edited to add: there are also other types, like Skilled Work etc – check out the Immi website I mention below)

We first came out here on a 457 class = “Employer Sponsored Temporary 4yr Visa” – that meant we were tied to the company who sponsored us.

We recently changed to an 856 = “Employer Nominated Scheme – Permanent Visa”. Again, we’re tied to the company but that’s fine as we like them and the work’s good.

If you look at that will show you all the many different classes and subclasses of visa.

Also, check out – it’s a messageboard website with stacks of people who know their stuff with regards to immigration and just general daily living, in whichever country you choose to move to

The best visa for you would probably be a student visa. It’s much easier to get than a skilled worker visa and when you’re doing a PhD (must be a full time degree), you can work for up to 20 hours per week during the semester and unlimited hours during official vacation times if you wish.

    See for all information.

Once you have your PhD, you can then apply for a permanent visa and would have a good chance of success because of your profession together with your Australian higher degree.

Tertiary education in Australia is not free even for Australian citizens though citizens and PRs receive subsidies which are not available to international students. You may be able to find a scholarship, but only your own government or the university will be able to assist you with information on that.

There are some great services on-line to get your visa. You can get a visa in 24 hours (for a fee). This is a great site my family and I have used in the past.
