Like if you failed a class one year and then passed it the next year will college put the failing grade into calculating GPA

Yes, but you should check to see if there is a second grade option. It is possible your college can substitute the class retake grade for the original one so that you won’t have to take such an academic hit on your record.

If you are a beginning freshman, then most colleges have what is called Freshman forgiveness. They understand that some people come to college unprepared for the new lifestyle and class work may suffer and they allow you to take a certain number of clases or credits over again, and will take the second grade, dropping the failing grade. If you are not a freshman, then yes it will factor into your GPA. If you have a 20 credits and were carrying a 3.0 then fail a 4 credit class, your GPA will drop to 2.5

Edit: After receiving your email, my new answer is yes they do factor in your failing grade regardless of new grade. Depending on your point system, the F will go in as a 0/1 and the new grade e.g a “C” will go in as a 2.0/1. If there’s an emotional or physical reason you failed, you can talk about getting an incomplete and finishing uncompleted work. Otherwise its pretty much written in stone. Sorry.

Check with your particular institution. Some will replace the F or D with the higher grade earned; I’ve seen some take an average of the higher grade and the lower grade. Some may put the failing grade into the calculations.
If you feel strongly that the lower grade is a problem for you long term, you can usually petition to have the grade dropped from your transcript or changed to a W. This may involve getting signatures from instructors, department chairs or deans, and you can’t do it post-graduation, so take care of it well before filing for graduation.

Yes.
It’s called a transcript. It contains all the classes you have took and the grades you earned in every classes.
But…
Most of times when a person is being transferred to another college. Some of classes that s/he already took will NOT be accepted at the new college so s/he will have to retake the classes. I know it’s terrible, but that is one of some ways that you could make up for your failing grade in the previous class.

Yes — it gets factored in as a zero.
